Safety is a top priority for the Roaring Fork Schools. Crisis drills are conducted throughout the school year as part of our Emergency Crisis Management Plan. Starting this year, all schools will conduct their first lockout, lockdown, and evacuation drill within the first three months of school. Also this year, we are conducting an all-day regional crisis response training presented by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation on Friday, September 7 with representatives participating from every school.

The goal of conducting emergency drills and trainings is to help our students and staff feel safe at school and to know what to do should an emergency arise. While we cannot communicate about the specific details of a drill, we do want parents to be aware of our practices and be able to support conversations with their students about crisis drills. The National School Association of School Psychologists has a great resource on how to talk to students about school violence.

You can learn more about our approach to school safety in our Emergency and Crisis Guide for Parents. We continue to look for opportunities for growth and improvement on crisis prevention and response preparation.
