In 2015, the district’s facility master planning process identified safe and secure schools as an important desire of our communities. The passing of the bond allowed us to create physical solutions to ensure that front entrances are secure and that all exterior doors are actively monitored.

With this added security comes a new process and policy for visitor entry to schools. We hope that these procedures allow us to maintain the welcoming feel of our schools while providing a safe and secure environment for your children.

Please note the following:

  • During school hours, all visitors will enter through the main doors and check-in at the welcome window prior to entering a school.
  • Once verified, visitors will be let into the building, asked to sign in, and given a badge that they will wear for the duration of their visit.
  • It is imperative that visitors not hold the door open for others behind them. Each visitor must be acknowledged individually.
  • Upon leaving, visitors will return their badges and sign out.

You will also see all of our Roaring Fork Schools staff--including bus drivers, guest teachers, district staff, food service workers, and more--wearing identification any time they are working in a building that is not their home school. We hope that this fosters a climate where all students and families feel welcome to greet all staff by name.

We know that this protocol is more stringent than past practice and may inconvenience our visitors who are, as always, welcome in our schools. If you should require clarification regarding the procedures, please contact your building principal.

Our commitment to creating welcoming and safe schools does not stop with these solutions, but they will be an important part of our new school entry process.
